Financial Crime Quality Assurance Analyst

Location: Glasgow

We are looking for experienced Financial Crime Quality Assurance Analysts to provide independent assurance across a range of Financial Crime activities, including Transaction Monitoring, Customer Due Diligence (CDD/KYC), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Sanctions and Screening.

The role will assess whether Financial Crime risks have been appropriately identified, investigated, evidenced, documented and managed in line with relevant policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and Quality Assurance standards.

Following appropriate training and accreditation, you will complete accurate, evidence-based QA reviews, identify control or quality gaps, support remediation and provide constructive feedback to operational teams. You will work closely with Quality Assurance colleagues, Financial Crime Operations and subject matter experts to drive consistent quality standards and continuous improvement across the Financial Crime control environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform independent Quality Assurance reviews across Financial Crime processes, which may include:

    • Transaction Monitoring investigations

    • CDD/KYC onboarding, periodic reviews and trigger events

    • Enhanced Due Diligence and High-Risk Customer reviews

    • PEP individual and entity assessments

    • Customer and Payment Screening

    • Sanctions and enhanced screening investigations

    • Transactional analysis and Financial Crime Exit decisions

  • Assess cases against relevant policies, standards, procedures and QA methodologies to determine whether risks have been appropriately identified, investigated, evidenced and concluded.

  • Review customer and transactional information to identify AML, terrorist financing, sanctions and wider Financial Crime risks and red flags.

  • Identify gaps in investigation quality, documentation, evidence, rationale or decision-making and record clear, accurate and proportionate QA findings.

  • Apply a risk-based approach when assessing the severity and impact of issues, escalating complex or material findings through the appropriate channels.

  • Support remediation activities and provide constructive feedback, coaching and challenge to operational and Quality Control teams.

  • Participate in calibration activities to promote consistency in QA assessments and decision-making.

  • Conduct or contribute to root-cause analysis, trend identification and thematic reviews to identify recurring issues and potential control weaknesses.

  • Maintain accurate QA records and contribute to management information, reporting and governance updates.

  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Compliance, Quality Control, Policy and Financial Crime subject matter experts to support quality improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to process enhancements, procedure reviews, training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within Financial Crime, AML or Financial Crime Operations, with experience in one or more of the following:

    • Transaction Monitoring

    • CDD / KYC

    • Enhanced Due Diligence

    • High-Risk Customer Reviews

    • PEP assessments

    • Customer or Payment Screening

    • Sanctions investigations

    • Financial Crime investigations

  • Experience within Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Audit, Testing, Oversight or other risk-based review activities.

  • Strong understanding of AML, terrorist financing, sanctions and Financial Crime risk management principles.

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, standards and procedures to customer, transactional or investigation scenarios.

  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to identify Financial Crime risks, red flags, control weaknesses and gaps in evidence or rationale.

  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgement and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to clearly document findings and provide evidence-based conclusions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and appropriately challenge stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines.

Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

  • Retail, Business, Corporate, Investment or Wholesale Banking.

  • Complex corporate entities, financial institutions, funds or trusts.

  • Beneficial ownership and ownership/control assessments.

  • Source of Wealth and Source of Funds reviews.

  • Structuring/smurfing, mule activity, cash-intensive businesses and unexplained third-party payments.

  • Complex corporate structures, shell companies, high-risk jurisdictions and trade-based money laundering risks.

  • Customer and Payment Screening, including sanctions alert investigation and escalation.

  • PEPs, adverse media, sanctions and enhanced screening.

  • Understanding of relevant sanctions regimes and associated ownership and control requirements.

  • QA sampling, checklists, error classification, remediation, issue management and appeals.

  • Root-cause analysis, thematic reviews, trend analysis and management information.

  • Case management, KYC/CLM, Transaction Monitoring, Screening or Financial Crime workflow systems.

  • Experience using screening platforms such as Firco, Accuity, World-Check, LexisNexis, Actimize, Quantexa or equivalent.

  • Relevant professional qualifications such as ICA, ACAMS or equivalent, or willingness to work towards a Financial Crime qualification.
